Legislation that rules the fishing in the Storå river

The fishing in the river  Storå is governed by various laws and regulations.

Most important is the Fisheries Act, as adopted by the Danish Parliament as number 203 of 28.02.2024.

This Act allows the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries to provide further guidelines for regulating fisheries in Denmark. For our water system there are especially 3 government notices that matter:

  1. Government notice no. 203 on special fishing regulations for Storå water system of 28.02.2024
  2. Government notice no. 1198 about minimum size and conservation times for fish and crayfish in freshwater of 07.06.2021
  3. Government notice no. 1311 about fishing and protection belts in Nissum Fjord of 14.06.2021

All these government notices are meant to be a minimum, that is, rules that must be observed as a minimum. We have the opportunity to introduce further restrictions, which we also have done in certain areas. As an example, there may be more conservation times for schelly and increased minimum size for brook trout.

You can read the individual regulations on the links below:

The fisheries Act. Here you will find a legal notice incorporating the original law with subsequent amendments incorporated.

Government notice 1311 about Nissum Fjord

Government notice 1198 about minimum size and conservation times in freshwater

Fishery in saline waters is also regulated. There are many different bodies that have published rules for minimum size in saline waters. Including the EU. Therefore, the fisheries Agency has compiled all applicable rules in the following goverment notices:

Government notice 791 om mindstemål for fisk og krebsdyr i saltvand af 15.06.2018

Government notice 1473 om fredningstider for fisk og krebsdyr i saltvand af 12.12.2014

If you want to fish along the coastline in Denmark it would be a good idea to read No. 791 and 1473.

Around the fjords of the country, there are a number of special provisions for fishing in saltwater areas. It is also the case in our area, for example in the northwestern part of the Limfjord, Nissum Fjord and Felsted Kog, the Kilen at Struer. These provisions have the Fisheries Control and DTU Aqua published some information leaflets about.
